Everything you need to know about IV drip therapy, contrast therapy, physiotherapy, slimming clinic and our wellness protocols in Ballito.
What is IV drip therapy and how does it work? +
IV drip therapy delivers vitamins, minerals, amino acids and hydration directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This means 100% bioavailability compared to approximately 20–30% absorption from oral supplements. Sessions at Maddog are supervised by our registered nurse practitioner, Sister Wren Kobus, and tailored to your individual needs.
Is IV drip therapy safe? +
Yes — when administered by a qualified nurse practitioner in a clinical setting. All IV sessions at Maddog are overseen by Sister Wren Kobus, a registered nurse with specialist wellness experience. We conduct a brief health screening before every session to ensure the protocol is safe and appropriate for you.
How long does an IV drip session take? +
Most IV drip sessions take between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the protocol. NAD+ protocols take longer — typically 90 minutes to 3 hours for a full infusion. You can relax in our clinic space during your session. We recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time slot.
What is contrast therapy (hot and cold therapy)? +
Contrast therapy alternates between our infrared sauna and cold plunge ice bath. The heat dilates blood vessels and increases circulation, while the cold causes vasoconstriction — this cycling effect accelerates the removal of metabolic waste, reduces inflammation, and speeds up muscle repair. It is one of the most effective recovery tools used by elite athletes worldwide.
How cold is the cold plunge at Maddog? +
Our cold plunge is maintained between 8°C and 12°C — the optimal range for physiological benefit. We recommend starting with 2–3 minutes and building tolerance over time. The contrast therapy protocol (sauna then cold plunge, repeated) produces greater results than cold alone.
What does an infrared sauna do differently to a regular sauna? +
Infrared saunas use light to heat the body from within rather than heating the air around you. This allows infrared wavelengths to penetrate up to 4cm into muscle tissue — far deeper than conventional steam saunas. The result is a more intense detox response, greater DOMS reduction, and improved cardiovascular benefit at a lower ambient temperature (typically 50–60°C vs 80–100°C for steam).
Do I need a referral to see your sports physiotherapist? +
No referral is needed. You can book directly with Robin JJ Williams, our in-house sports physiotherapist. Robin has worked at professional level with The Stormers, The Sharks, Zebre Parma (Italy) and SARU international series. He treats all levels — from weekend warriors to professional athletes — and works with any age group.
What is the slimming clinic and how does it work? +
Our slimming clinic is a medically supervised fat loss and body composition programme. It begins with a doctor assessment and InBody scan to understand your current body composition. Our in-house medical practitioner then prescribes a personalised protocol — which may include nutrition guidance, prescription-grade interventions, peptide therapy and weekly monitoring. This is not a quick fix. It is a clinically guided system.
What is an InBody scan and what does it measure? +
An InBody scan uses bioelectrical impedance analysis to measure your body composition in detail — including body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat level, basal metabolic rate and fluid balance. The scan takes less than 5 minutes and provides a detailed printout. We use the results to personalise your protocol and track progress over time.
What is NAD+ therapy and who is it for? +
NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme critical to cellular energy production, DNA repair and cognitive function. Levels decline naturally with age. NAD+ IV therapy replenishes these levels directly, and is used for energy optimisation, cognitive performance, anti-ageing, and recovery from burnout or illness. It is delivered as an IV infusion under nurse supervision and is particularly popular with executives, athletes and anyone experiencing fatigue or mental fog.
