The science of hot and cold.
Contrast therapy — alternating between intense cold and dry heat — is one of the most evidence-backed recovery protocols available. Athletes, executives and wellness-focused individuals across the world have made it a non-negotiable part of their weekly routine. The physiology is straightforward: cold constricts blood vessels and reduces inflammation; heat dilates them and increases circulation. Alternating between the two creates a powerful pumping effect that accelerates recovery, reduces soreness, sharpens mental clarity and improves sleep quality.
Research consistently shows that regular contrast therapy reduces delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by up to 20%, improves sleep quality, reduces cortisol levels, and delivers measurable improvements in mood, focus and energy — often within the first session.
Cold water immersion triggers a cascade of physiological responses — norepinephrine surges up to 300%, inflammation is rapidly reduced, and the nervous system enters a state of acute alertness followed by profound calm. The discomfort is temporary. The benefits are not.
- Reduces acute and chronic inflammation
- Significantly lowers DOMS after training
- Boosts norepinephrine — improves mood and focus
- Activates brown fat thermogenesis (supports fat loss)
- Improves sleep onset and sleep quality
- Strengthens mental resilience and stress tolerance
Infrared heat penetrates deeper than traditional saunas, raising core temperature and triggering heat shock proteins that protect and repair cells. The result is deep muscle relaxation, accelerated metabolic waste removal and a profound sense of calm that lasts for hours.
- Deep muscle relaxation and tension release
- Accelerates removal of metabolic waste (lactic acid)
- Triggers heat shock proteins — cellular repair
- Supports cardiovascular health (passive cardio)
- Improves skin condition through deep sweating
- Reduces cortisol and supports hormonal balance
How contrast therapy works.
A standard contrast therapy session alternates between the cold plunge and the sauna in cycles — typically 3 rounds of cold followed by heat, ending cold. This cycling creates a vascular pumping effect unlike anything else available to the body without pharmacological support.
For first-time users, our team will guide you through the protocol. For regulars, you set your own pace. Most clients complete a session in 45–60 minutes and report feeling clear, calm and energised for the rest of the day.
- Recommended: 2–3 sessions per week for optimal results
- First session includes protocol guidance
- No experience necessary — all fitness levels welcome
- Towels and changing facilities available
Increase in norepinephrine after cold immersion — improves focus, energy and mood
Reduction in DOMS with regular contrast therapy — less soreness, faster recovery
