Strength & Conditioning Coach | Powerlifting Athlete | Bodybuilding Athlete | Registered Nurse Practitioner | Ballito, KZN North Coast
At Maddog Performance Institute in Ballito, we believe that great coaching is built on three things: science, experience, and the courage to lead by example. Amanda Kobus embodies all three. As a Strength and Conditioning Coach, competitive powerlifting athlete, NPC Worldwide-titled bodybuilding athlete, and fully registered Nurse Practitioner, Amanda brings a combination of credentials to the coaching floor that is genuinely rare — not just in South Africa, but anywhere. She is the in-house clinician at Maddog Performance Institute, Ballito, and one of the most uniquely qualified coaches on the KZN North Coast.
If you are searching for a personal trainer in Ballito, a women's strength coach on the KZN North Coast, or an online strength and conditioning coach in South Africa who actually understands the human body at a clinical level — you have found her.
From Operating Theatres to the Lifting Platform: Amanda's Extraordinary Background
Amanda Kobus is not a conventional strength coach. Before she built her reputation in the gym, she built a career at the intersection of medicine, science, and service. As a fully registered Professional Nurse Practitioner (SANC Number: 14662043 | Practice Number: 1196763), a Medical Science Liaison, and a Military Medical Professional, Amanda accumulated decades of clinical experience that most coaches will never access.
This background is not a footnote to her coaching career — it is the foundation of it. Amanda understands human anatomy at a clinical level. She understands how the body responds to physical stress, how hormonal cycles affect strength output and recovery, how injury prevention integrates with programme design, and how an individual's medical history must shape every phase of their training. When Amanda writes your programme, she is not guessing. She is applying medical science to every rep, every set, and every progression.
Amanda brings over two decades of healthcare experience to the health and wellness industry, including service within the South African National Defence Force with deployments under the United Nations. Her clinical background spans Midwifery, Emergency Medicine, Community Healthcare, and Psychiatric Nursing, with an additional four years dedicated specifically to HIV and emergency care.
She also holds more than 10 years of experience in IV therapy and patient wellness support — combining evidence-based medical knowledge with practical performance, recovery, and preventative healthcare applications. This multidisciplinary background allows her to bridge the gap between clinical medicine, athletic performance, recovery science, and patient-centred wellness care in a way that very few coaches anywhere in the world are equipped to do.
Now in-house at Maddog Performance Institute, Ballito, Amanda merges her clinical background with elite-level coaching to deliver results that are safe, intelligent, and performance-driven.
A Competitive Athlete With Stage-Proven Results
Amanda does not just coach competitive athletes. She is one.
As a competitive powerlifting athlete, Amanda trains the squat, bench press, and deadlift with the technical rigour and structured periodisation that the sport demands. Her approach to strength is built on progressive overload, disciplined movement quality, and long-term performance planning — the same principles she delivers to every client she coaches.
2025 Powerlifting Achievements
In 2025, Amanda continued to establish herself as a leading force in South African strength sports, earning the title of KZN Masters 1 Female Under 69kg Record Holder. Representing KwaZulu-Natal Powerlifting Association at national level, she placed 3rd at the South African Powerlifting Championships — securing selection to the prestigious South African Protea Powerlifting Team.
Amanda was subsequently invited to represent South Africa at the 2025 African Powerlifting Championships in Tunisia. Based on GL scoring rankings for 2025 within her division, she ranked 3rd in Africa and 9th in the world — a result that reflects her commitment to high-performance sport and elite athletic development at an international level.
On the bodybuilding stage, Amanda has performed at an elite level. She is a competitive NPC Worldwide athlete who won both the Bikini and Figure categories at the 2021 NPC Worldwide Jozi Regional Qualifier in South Africa — one of the most competitive regional NPC qualifiers on the South African calendar. Winning two categories at a single qualifier is not a small achievement. It requires peak physical preparation, months of structured nutrition and training, and the mental discipline to perform under pressure.
As a mother of three, Amanda achieved those results while navigating the real demands of family life. That is not a detail in her story — it is the point of her story.
Every client Amanda coaches benefits from both sides of her athlete identity: the clinical precision of her medical training, and the hard-won wisdom of someone who has stood on stage and delivered.
Coaching Anyone Who Is Serious About Getting Stronger
Amanda coaches men and women across all fitness levels and goals. Strength is not defined by gender — and neither is Amanda's approach. Whether you are a young athlete building your foundation, a working professional looking to regain fitness, or a seasoned competitor chasing a new personal best, she has the clinical knowledge and competitive experience to build a programme that works for you. Her background as a Nurse Practitioner means she reads every client through a medical lens: how the body responds to training stress, how recovery is shaped by sleep, nutrition, and lifestyle, how injury history must influence programme design, and how to consistently produce results without burning the client out.
Amanda's coaching empowers every client to:
- Build real, functional strength — not just aesthetic results
- Train safely and intelligently, with programmes grounded in medical and performance science
- Train around life's demands — injuries, busy schedules, and changing goals — with a programme that adapts
- Develop a performance mindset that carries beyond the gym into everyday life
- Compete on stage or on the platform if that is the goal — or simply feel powerful and capable every day
Whether you are a busy professional on the KZN North Coast looking for structured strength training, someone returning to fitness after time away, or a competitive athlete preparing for an NPC show or powerlifting meet in South Africa — Amanda meets you exactly where you are.
